PROVO, Utah - Tyler Haws scored 14 points in the first half versus Pepperdine to pass Michael Smith for third place on the BYU all-time scoring list. The Cougars were also led by Anson Winder who scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds but trailed at the half 39-29.
The Waves got off to a hot start shooting, making eight of their first 11 shots and opening up a quick 15-5 lead on BYU. Pepperdine used good outside shooting to extend the lead making six of their first eight 3-pointers as well. The Waves finished the half shooting 47 percent from the floor, 46 percent from three and were led by 12 points and three rebounds from Stacy Davis.
The Cougars got off to a slow start making only three of their first nine shots. After falling behind 34-20, a 3-pointer from Chase Fischer and two jumpers from Tyler Haws fueled a 7-0 run by BYU. After Pepperdine responded with five quick points, an Isaac Neilson putback dunk cut brought the score to 39-29. The Cougars shot 36 percent from the floor and 35 percent from three against a Pepperdine team ranked second in the nation in 3-point percentage defense.
BYU attempted no free throws in the half compared to Pepperdine who went 5 of 7 from the line.
